You might think I’m talking about my life when I say “It Gets Weirder” – and you could certainly make a good case for that – but I’m actually talking about an upcoming lecture of mine.
Hugely encouraged by the terrific turnout at the first illustrated lecture of my new series earlier this month – “Architecture of Scandal: Greystone Mansion & the Dohenys” – my design partner-in-crime Ian Patrick and I will be offering the second one in the series in January.
This talk is called “Wait, It Gets Weirder: Victorian Art & Culture,” and it is being presented through my nonprofit, The Institute of Good Design.
The Victorian Era was filled with rapidly changing social mores, a fascination with death and the occult, a desire to travel to exotic locales, and an interest in both historicism and modern technology. Ian and I will take you on a journey through the art and design of this period and we will examine some of the weird and creepy collections of the Victorians.
The illustrated lecture will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8 in Room 105 of the Humanities & Social Sciences Building on the main Santa Monica College campus, 1900 Pico Blvd. Parking is free on Friday nights. Tickets are $10 plus a $1 processing fee.
You can register and get more information on my Meetup page or my website, or you can contact me at EleanorSchrader@roadrunner.com.
We hope to see you there!
