Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills

Since I love dishing the dirt on design, I am so happy to inform you that I’ll be doing two illustrated lecture series, the first beginning Nov. 6, which will be ongoing, and the second beginning Jan. 23. I hope these lectures enthrall you.

The first lecture in the first series, held in conjunction with the Santa Monica College Events Department, will be on Friday, Nov. 6. I will be teaming up with my wonderful design partner, interior designer and SMC instructor Ian Patrick, to present the first lecture, “Architecture of Scandal: Greystone Mansion & the Dohenys.” This will highlight the upcoming Maison de Luxe Design Show House being held at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills in November. I hope you’ll join me and Ian for a scandal-filled talk on the stories of the mansion and its ghosts, architecture and decorative interiors.

The lecture Nov. 6 will be held at 7 p.m. in Room 105 of the Humanities & Social Sciences Building on the main SMC campus, 1900 Pico Blvd. Parking is free on Friday nights. Tickets are $10 plus a $1 processing fee; please contact me at EleanorSchrader@roadrunner.com for ticket purchase information.

The second series, titled “Palaces, Princes & Paramours,” is sponsored by SMC Community Education and will begin Jan. 23 for three consecutive Saturdays, at 10 a.m. in Room 165 of the Humanities & Social Sciences Building. Parking is free on weekends.

The lectures are “The Decorative Arts & Interiors of the Italian Renaissance;” “Henry VIII & the Legacy of the Tudor Court: English Country Houses & Palaces;” and “The Role of the Royal Mistress in the Design of Great French Palaces.”

Tickets are $25 each or $70 for all three, significantly less than the lecture series I have done through UCLA Extension.
