“Hollywood: The First 100 Years” Showcase House
The Mediterranean style Gurdon W. Wattles’ estate and gardens in Hollywood is an outstanding example of early 20th century Southern California architecture. Named “Jualita”, it was designed by famed architects Myron Hunt and Elmer Grey in 1907. The estate has been recognized by the California Historic Preservation Commission as “the only remaining intact example of the once plentiful Hollywood estates from the period preceding the film industry, when Hollywood was primarily agricultural and was a wintering home for wealthy Easterners and Midwesterners.”
The house will be open for the first time to the public on Thursdays through Sundays, March 25 through April 17. Ticket sales will benefit Homes for Heroes and the American Society of Interior Designers. My design partner and I have designed one of the rooms, and we have something really scrumptious for you!
