What role did a mistress play in the design of Chateau de Loches?

I’m happy to report that I will be busy leading exciting tours and giving an eclectic mix of lectures over the next few months. I’ve already mentioned the Hudson River Valley tour in October and the Shangri-La lectures this fall. But there’s more – and again, details will be forthcoming (if not listed below).

• Jazz up your life by heading this fall with me and Darrell Schmitt, Fellow of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), to the Crescent City as we tour historic homes in and around New Orleans.

• Get a close look at the gorgeous Anne Banning Community House, the building that Paul R. Williams designed for the charitable organization, Assistance League of Southern California. The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is sponsoring an event there at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 as part of its Industry Partner Table Top Expo. You’ll get an opportunity to view the building on St. Andrews Place in east Hollywood, which was constructed specifically for the Assistance League to support its work.

The Paul Williams-designed Anne Banning Community House is the home of the Assistance League of Southern California

I will talk about the history of the Community House, its brilliant and groundbreaking Los Angeles architect, and some of the famous Hollywood stars of another era who volunteered at the house for the League. Darrell Schmitt of ASID will give a presentation on exciting plans for a Community House renovation, which is being designed by architect Russel Tyner. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and $10 for students. The event is open to the public, but RSVPs are required by contacting the ASID LA office at asidoffice@asidla.org.

• In another life, I think I was a royal mistress – but then again, that might just be wishful thinking. Regardless, I’ll be talking about “The Role of the Royal Mistress in the Design of French Palaces” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 at the lovely Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. All proceeds of this “Tea & Talk” event will support the restoration of Greystone. For information, contact Friends of Greystone at (310) 286-0119 or friends@greystonemansion.org.

• I’m happy to be teaching three interior design and architecture classes at UCLA Extension this fall, Fundamentals of Interior Architecture and History of Environmental Arts III (19th century).
