mid century modernContinuing my education of Realtors in Los Angeles, I will be writing a column for a Coldwell Banker newsletter that will help real estate agents identify various architectural styles of houses.

As some of you may recall, for several years I have been lecturing to various groups of Realtors on “Architectural Styles of Los Angeles,” with audiences ranging from 20 to 200 people.

I believe it’s important for real estate agents to be able to talk knowledgeably to their clients about the style of home they are showing, why it’s architecturally important, and how it fits into L.A. in an historical and sociopolitical context.

craftsmanFrom the Realtor’s perspective, this knowledge can help make the sale. And though very slowly emerging, there is a growing trend for buyers to want homes designed by a particular architect or, at least, for their real estate agents to be informed on architectural styles.

It’s a rewarding way for me to spread my gospel that L.A. has a rich and eclectic architectural heritage that is worth knowing about and preserving.
