One of the wonderful side benefits of teaching is meeting so many interesting students – and sometimes, their spouses and family members.

That’s how I got to meet and become friends with Los Angeles architect Christopher Sorensen, who not only designs stunning homes all over L.A. (particularly coastal communities) and San Francisco, he is deeply committed to sustainability. I’ve been so impressed with his work that I’ve invited him several times to speak to my UCLA design students about green design, and they love his talks.

“With each and every project we apply sustainable design concepts and utilize organic building materials to educate clients about alternatives to the wasteful conventions that define typical construction projects,” Christopher says on his website. “Virtually, every project that we design uses active photovoltaic power and solar hot water systems to energize the home. Our designs inherently incorporate passive solar and natural ventilation techniques, creating buildings that require less energy.”

I’m planning to meet with Christopher soon for a new series of Delicious Design blog entries that I will be doing from time to time that will be built around personal conversations with some of the most impressive design leaders in L.A.

Watch for my blog on Christopher, tentatively scheduled to come out in February.

Warmest regards,

Eleanor
