Those of you who are familiar with my taste in design and architecture know that I value class and elegance above almost everything else.
So, it’s appropriate that my two upcoming lectures are embedded in both class and elegance – the first on the legendary architect Paul Williams, the second being held at Greystone Mansion’s Concours d’Elegance 2015.
The Paul Williams lecture will be at UCLA Extension on Saturday, April 25. The second, on Los Angeles Architectural Style and History, is Sunday, May 3 at the lovely Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills and will feature a classy collection of vintage cars as well as gourmet food, beverages and more.
Often described as the “architect to the stars,” Paul Williams left an indelible mark on architecture during a prolific career that spanned nearly 60 years.
The first African-American member and Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, Mr. Williams became known for his stylized and elegant designs. He had an extraordinary mastery of Southern California historical styles, yet was equally comfortable with modern design.
His vast body of work stretches from Beverly Hills and New York to Paris and Colombia, including work for such luminaries as Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Tyrone Power, and Lon Chaney.
