We’re moving our delicious art and architecture tour in the South of France to October 9 through 18, when the crowds of tourists have thinned out and the fall weather will be lovely. Wonderful museums, churches, castles and more are lined up.

Here’s a reminder of the itinerary:

We will begin and end in Nice on the French Riviera, with visits to both the Chagall Museum and the Matisse Museum, as well as the Palais Lascaris, which dates back to the 17th century, and the city’s fascinating Archaeological Crypt. A side trip to nearby St. Paul de Vence with its Fondation Maegt, a famed museum featuring modern art, is also on the itinerary.

After three nights in Nice, we will depart for Greoux-Les-Bains in Provence, stopping at Le Thoronet Abbey, a former Cistercian abbey built in the late 12thand early 13thcentury, now restored as a museum. Greoux-Les-Bains will be the jumping off point for a day at the Regional Market of Forcalquier, followed by a couple of options: Roman and Medieval Thermal Spa or a self-guided tour of the Castle of Greoux. The next day will take us to another market and on to the charming village of Lourmarin, where we will visit the Lourmarin Castle, and then on to our hotel in Buoux.

The next day we will head to Les Baux-de-Provence, and the following day to the famous Roman city of Arles, with visits to its historic Arena, Church of St. Trophine, and new Van Gogh Museum. Aix-en-Provence is our destination the following day, with a stop the next day at Fondation Vasarely, a center that promotes“art for all” and the “city of tomorrow,” a city in which art harmoniously blends with architecture.

On the last day, we will stop at St. Maximin Basilique – with its impressive arches, beautiful pipe organ, and crypt with the relics of Mary Magdalene – on our way to the Nice Airport.

The tour will include stays in excellent hotels, ground transportation, and many meals. We will also have lots of free time for shopping or exploring on our own.
